What is Midnight Swag?

Midnight Swag is a retro heist platformer inspired by an old ZX Spectrum game, with mansions full of treasure and some very inconvenient police. Slip through a window, collect five treasures, and leave through that same window before moving on to the next house. The catch: there are no stairs, so your burglary route runs on trampolines and holes in the floor.

How to play Midnight Swag

1

1. Get moving

Click the game first to give it keyboard focus, then move with ←/→ or A/D. Touch controls use the ◀ and ▶ buttons.

2

2. Bag five treasures

Enter through a window and collect five treasures inside the house. Escape through the window you came in through to move on to the next mansion.

3

3. Bounce between floors

Step onto a trampoline to ride up its shaft, then press left or right as you pass a floor to hop off. Press ↓ or S, or the touch ▼ button, to stop bouncing.

4

4. Mind your landing

Walking off a ledge sends you down the hole, and you can only be caught while your feet are on the ground. Four consecutive bounces leave you puffed out; touch the floor to recover.

5

5. Work those doors

Open or shut doors with Space or E, or tap DOOR on the touch controls. Shut one behind you and the police will knock, wait, then barge in.

6

6. Pause or adjust the audio

Pause with Esc or P, or the touch pause button. N controls music and M controls sound, with corresponding music and speaker buttons on touch.

What's inside these mansions?

1

A fresh street every run

Play mode serves up endless procedurally generated houses. Lose your last life and you're back at house one.

2

Practice without the pressure

Practice mode removes the police and the clock. Get acquainted with those trampolines without a copper breathing down your neck.

3

Twenty hand-built heists

Classic 20 swaps generated houses for twenty hand-built mansions, played in order.

4

An awkward crowd of pursuers

Police patrol, dogs pace the floors, and a quicker detective follows your trail and picks locks. Ghosts drift through walls, but can only catch you while they're solid.

5

Mystery boxes with consequences

Boxes can grant fast feet or invisibility, turn everyone into burglars, or send the police off for donuts. They can also kill the lights or sound a whistle that brings every copper running.

6

Wraparound houses

Run off one side of a house and you'll come back on the other. Apparently, even the architecture is in on the getaway.

A few burglar basics

1

Buy time with a door

Police knock and wait at closed doors before barging through. A closed door delays them, but it won't keep them out forever.

💡Shut doors behind you while moving through the house.

2

Catch your breath

Four bounces in a row leave you puffed out. Touching the floor restores your breath, though being grounded also makes you vulnerable.

💡Hop onto a floor to recover between stretches of bouncing.

3

Learn without the chase

Practice removes both the police and the clock. That leaves you free to work out when to exit a trampoline shaft.

💡Use Practice to rehearse hopping off at different floors.

Midnight Swag questions

Q:

Why aren't the keyboard controls responding?

A:

Click the game first so it receives keyboard input. The creator also recommends playing in fullscreen.

Q:

How do you reach higher floors?

A:

Trampolines are the only way up. Step onto one, then press left or right as you pass the floor you want to reach.

Q:

Can the police catch you while you're bouncing?

A:

No—you're untouchable in the air and can only be caught with your feet on the ground. Four bounces in a row leave you exhausted, so you'll need to touch the floor to recover.

A:

Yes, the source lists touch buttons for movement, stopping bounces, doors, pause, music, and sound.

Q:

Is there a mode for learning the controls?

A:

Why give it a go?

🎮

A heist built around bouncing

Trampolines are your only route upward, and being airborne keeps you safe from capture. Getting the loot means thinking about where you'll land, not just where you'll jump.

🎲

Generated or hand-built?

Chase an endless run through generated houses, or tackle Classic 20's fixed sequence of mansions. Practice is there when you just want to figure out the bouncing.
