What is Catacomb?

Catacomb is a 2D action game about collecting candy in a dark maze while Reapers hunt you down. Your lantern can't light around corners, and its oil keeps draining, so candy is both your score fuel and your light supply. Grab it, avoid combo-wrecking skulls, and see how long you can last.

How to play Catacomb

1

1. Steer with the mouse

Move the mouse to steer, pushing the arrow tip toward the circle's edge to run and pulling it toward the middle to stop. Hold the left mouse button to pull items in, and right-click to light a flare.

2

2. Prefer keys? Use these

Move with WASD or the arrow keys. Hold Shift to pull items and press Space to light a flare.

3

3. Drag to move on touchscreens

Put your first finger down wherever it's comfortable and drag; move beyond the circle's edge and the joystick follows. Hold the magnet button or use a second finger to pull, and tap the flame icon for a flare.

4

4. Feed the flame

Collect candy to refill your lantern oil before the light shrinks and flickers. Pulling burns oil faster and attracts skulls as well as candy, so that handful from the dark might come with baggage.

5

5. Keep the combo rolling

Each candy is worth your current combo, which grows with consecutive candy pickups. Skulls cost oil and points, briefly stun you, and reset that combo.

6

6. Push Reapers back with flares

Every 10 candies earns a flare, with room to carry up to three. A flare blinds every Reaper within its light and drives them back.

Catacomb tips

What lurks in the maze

1

A fresh maze every run

Each run gives you a new maze. Your lantern doesn't reach around corners, leaving whatever is behind the next wall in darkness.

2

Reapers that pick up the pace

Reapers follow the shortest path through the corridors toward you. More wake up over time, and they get faster as the run continues—and faster still as your light dims.

3

Candy with a scoring streak

Consecutive candy pickups grow your combo, making each candy worth more points. One skull resets it, alongside its oil penalty and brief stun.

4

A jump scare you can switch off

There's a jump scare with a loud sound. You can turn it off on the start screen if that's not your kind of Halloween treat.

A:

Yes, Catacomb runs in the browser on desktop and mobile. It includes mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen controls.
